On December 2, 2024, Bangladesh NGO Foundation Day was observed in Meherpur with due honor. Alongside the government, both local and international NGOs play a significant role in the welfare of the country. The event was organized by Meherpur District Administration in collaboration with Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF) and its partner organizations.
As part of the celebration, a discussion meeting was held at the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center, Meherpur on Monday. Mr. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain, President of the Meherpur District NGO Association, presided over the event. Mr. Tarikul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Meherpur, attended as the chief guest. Mr. A.J.M. Sirajum Munir, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation, Meherpur, and Mr. Monirul Islam, BRAC District Representative, were present as special guests.
The discussion was conducted by Mr. Abu Jafar, Executive Director of Sandhani Organization, while the welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Moin-ul-Alam, Executive Director of Subah Samajik Unnayan Sangstha, representing Bangladesh NGO Foundation in Meherpur. Other notable speakers included Mr. Murad Hossain, a development worker from MOUK, and Mr. Golam Kibria, Executive Director of Palli Janunnayan Kalyan Sangstha, Meherpur.
Several beneficiaries also shared their experiences, including Ms. Mahima Khatun, Ms. Sumiara Khatun, Ms. Sufia Khatun, and Mr. Hasnat Ali.
Before the discussion session, a colorful rally was led by Mr. Tarikul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, starting from the DC Office premises. The rally paraded through the main roads of the city and concluded at the Islamic Foundation premises. The event was attended by NGO heads, officials, employees, beneficiaries, and people from different walks of life.
This celebration highlighted the crucial role of NGOs in community development and social welfare, reinforcing their commitment to supporting sustainable development initiatives in Bangladesh.
